Do You Make These Sport Supplement Mistakes?

With the increasing trend toward using supplements to boost energy and performance in sports training, many fitness enthusiasts are including supplements in their daily routines. Often people buy supplements with expectations of amazing results, and when they don’t see these results, are left wondering what went wrong. So, how can you get the best value and results from your supplements? Here are some common mistakes and how to avoid them:

Having unrealistic expectations

Many people read about the amazing benefits of sport supplements and become over-ambitious. Changing your body takes time. Whether you want to lose fat or bulk-up, it won’t happen in a few weeks, and you certainly can’t do both at the same time. If you’re carrying too much fat, choose a fat-burner and focus on tidying up your diet first, then work on muscle gain with the help of a whey protein powder.

Forgetting the basics

Don’t forget to support your body’s overall health with a multivitamin. Many people have some form of vitamin deficiency, and those who work out and exercise on a regular basis have an even higher requirement for vitamins and minerals. Include a source of essential healthy fats, like fish oil, for healthy heart and brain functioning and joint support. Another basic is starting with a good quality whey protein powder, before moving onto other supplements.

Not understanding how supplements work

There has been a lot of research into certain supplements, like branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and creatine, yet there also remains dividing opinions regarding necessity and efficiency. Taking a supplement because you’ve heard the hype but haven’t actually researched what it is used for and how it will affect your body is a common mistake. Take the time to do your homework and understand how best to incorporate each supplement into your fitness plan.

Lacking consistency

Being disappointed by slow progress or lack of visible results can lead to inconsistency, ultimately resulting in poor performance which is often blamed on supplements. By adopting a ‘continuous journey’ mentality and sticking to your original plan of attack, you will maximise your outcomes and it won’t be long before you see the results you’re after.

Forgetting the importance of diet

Supplements are designed to do just that – supplement your diet. Supplements are designed to fill the gaps in diet with the necessary macro and micronutrients. If you’re not consuming adequate fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, carbohydrates (yes, even carbs!), and hydrating sufficiently, you’ll never gain benefits from your supplements let alone the hard work you put in at the gym.

Give Me 5 Minutes And I'll Show You How Zumba Can Help You Maintain Your Ideal Weight As Easily As Turning On A Tap!

Zumba has fast become an extremely popular workout concept, transforming the way people view and engage in exercise. Zumba choreography incorporates hip-hop, squats, lunges, martial arts, salsa, meringue and mambo. It is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps. With a slogan like “Ditch the workout, join the party!” it isn’t any surprise that Zumba has enticed millions of people to join the party while reaping the health benefits. The following 3 reasons will quickly show you how Zumba’s aerobic dance approach to a healthy lifestyle can help you maintain your ideal weight:

1. It’s fun!

It’s true that Zumba participants eagerly await their next opportunity to lose weight like no other! Zumba encompasses a myriad of dance beats from Latin America, India, Brazil and the Caribbean, so learning the dance moves is a huge part of the fun. It also means that you won’t get bored with the same old repetitive classes and there’s always room to improve or ramp up intensity. There’s no denying Zumba is a whole lot of fun, and if the workout’s fun, you’re more likely to return time after time. You’ll be more consistent with your exercise, see the results faster, and ultimately be more inclined to stick with it.

2.  Burns Calories, fast!

Aerobic / cardio activities have been shown to be highly effective at burning calories. Aerobic activity essentially involves getting your heart rate up and keeping it up for a sustained period of time. Research has found that participating in a single Zumba fitness class burned an average of 369 calories, that’s more than classes like power yoga, aerobics or kickboxing. You’ll be so busy learning the dance moves and enjoying yourself, you’ll be burning calories without even noticing! Zumba is also a weight-bearing exercise that helps build bone and muscle strength, while improving flexibility and strengthening core.

3. The power of interval training!

Interval training burns more calories and improves cardiovascular capacity and performance. It simply means alternating between bursts of intense activity and intervals of lighter activity. Zumba does exactly this - warming you up gently before throwing you into fast rhythms, then allowing you to catch your breath on the slow rhythms. The class instructor will follow interval training techniques throughout the 60 minute session to maximise fat-burning, enabling you to reach and maintain your ideal weight with ease.
